FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 19, 2020
BURLINGTON – Adam Roof, a local non-profit leader, small business owner, and former Burlington City Councilor, has declared his candidacy for Chittenden County State Senate. Roof, a Democrat, currently runs BTV Ignite – an organization with the mission of fostering innovation through technology, aiding small businesses, and supporting workers who have historically been left behind.
Roof said, "I am excited to announce my candidacy for State Senate and am grateful for the support of so many as this process begins. Now more than ever, we need elected leaders who will deliver for our cities and towns, are responsive to the needs of our residents, and will ensure that Vermonters are safe, healthy, and financially stable."
He continued, “As State Senator, I will take my experience – both running and supporting small businesses, managing a non-profit, and in government to advocate for our residents in Montpelier. Chittenden County deserves a State Senator focused on our shared goals and priorities – fostering economic opportunity and embracing our local small businesses, making Vermont the national leader in environmental sustainability, investing deeply in our public schools, fighting for affordable and accessible health care, and giving our seniors the tax relief they deserve."
Adam Roof served as a Burlington City Councilor for 5 years, where he was a leader on issues ranging from climate action to progressive economic development, affordable housing advocacy, and promoting inclusivity, openness, and accountability. Roof chaired the Council's Public Safety Committee, Liquor Licensing Committee, and Community Development & Neighborhood Revitalization Committee.
Roof has been an active community partner, serving as member of the Burlington Low-Barrier Homeless Shelter Advisory Committee, the Burlington Community Coalition, and the Burlington Parallel Justice Commission. Roof also founded the Burlington Nightlife Sexual Assault Prevention Program. He is a former Trustee and graduate of the University of Vermont.
